How to install a Claude Cowork plugin

This follows Anthropic's Plugins documentation. A plugin packages skills, connectors, commands and agents so you add them as one unit. The plugin is saved to your account, so it is also available in Cowork and Claude Code without installing it again.

  1. 1

    Open Customize > Plugins

Every way of adding a plugin starts from the Plugins page under Customize in claude.ai or the Claude desktop app.

  2. 2

    Choose how to add it

Pick a plugin from Discover, add a marketplace (a Git repository that contains plugins), or upload a plugin as a .zip or .plugin file.

  3. 3

    Connect bundled connectors

Adding a plugin does not sign you in to anything. Open the plugin's Connectors tab to add or connect each connector.

  4. 4

    Run a skill or command

In Cowork, type /plugin-name:command, or describe the task and let Claude load the matching skill.

The three ways to add a plugin

  • Discover. Plugins in Anthropic's default marketplaces, the directory, and any your organization provides. Select one to read what it contains, then select Add. The directory's plugins appear on Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise plans.
  • Add > Add marketplace. Enter a repository URL such as https://github.com/your-org/your-plugins or the owner/repo shorthand for GitHub. Its plugins then appear alongside the others.
  • Add > Upload plugin. Upload a plugin folder as a .zip or .plugin file that holds one .claude-plugin/plugin.json.

On Team and Enterprise plans, an Owner controls which sources members see and whether they can add their own. Before you add anything from a marketplace URL or an upload, read plugin security.

Claude Code command line

Many community plugins on this site show two commands you run in a Claude Code session, one to add the marketplace and one to install the plugin. Plugins you install from the command line stay on that machine and are not added to your claude.ai account.
